Replacing a Timing Belt Service Cost

Timing belt replacement is an important maintenance item not to be taken lightly as procrastination leads to expensive engine repairs. Costs vary obviously from make to make and engine size and configurations. Some older smaller engines come in around the $250 mark and can range up to $500 + on some of the more exotic makes.

Generally though you want to not only replace the belt but the idler bearings, tensioner bearings, tensioners camshaft and crankshaft seals. In most cases it is also a good time to replace the water pump as it uses does entail extra labor costs. Most belts are good from 60 K to 100 K depending on the manufacturer.

Don’t settle for the cheapest parts you can find as quality will always be a concern especially when it comes to timing components…
